Solo Subbuteo
Subbuteo, on Your Terms
Solo play is a unique and growing corner of the Subbuteo world. While some see it as a quiet alternative to the hustle of club nights and tournaments, for others, it's the main event, a relaxing, competitive, and endlessly creative way to enjoy the game we all love.
Whether you’re flicking in your front room or running a full league from your spare room, solo Subbuteo offers flexibility, immersion, and the chance to tailor the game exactly how you like it.

Why Play Solo?
Not everyone can commit to club nights or travel for tournaments, and that’s where solo play shines.
Play when you want and without needing an opponent to Create your own leagues, cups, and storylines. Use any rules or teams you enjoy from classic Subbuteo to FISTF or your own hybrid, Escape the stress of the day with something hands-on, nostalgic, and fun.
Many solo players also find it a deeply creative outlet: collecting, modelling, writing match reports, recording stats, and building rich footballing worlds from their tabletop.

Rules? Your Rules
There’s no one-size-fits-all for solo play, and that’s the point. You can modify existing rules for balance and flow, introduce simple AI systems to control defensive reactions, limit blocking to specific situations to reduce scorelines but keep things fair and tweak gameplay for immersion, like awarding possession to the team closest to a rebound or tailoring tactics per team.
Solo players have found countless ways to simulate the real game while keeping it fun and achievable.

A Solo Player’s Perspective
“I play a tournament with a guy 350 miles away. Our teams play home and away, and we aggregate the scores to see who goes through. It's brilliant. You’re never truly alone in solo Subbuteo.”
From writing match reports to creating detailed fantasy leagues or replicating real ones, the only limit is your imagination.
