Official Rule Sets Used by The ESA
This page contains the official rule documents for the formats played at ESA-sanctioned tournaments and events. Each set of rules supports a distinct style of play, from the traditional Old School format to the modern FISTF competition standard. Please use the versions provided here to ensure consistency at ESA events and when organising your own tournaments.


FISTF Sports Rules of Table Football (Version 5.3)
The Official Rules for Modern Subbuteo Table Football
Used in all ESA-affiliated modern tournaments, these are the official international rules set by FISTF.
They are designed for competitive, fast-paced gameplay and are followed in all major FISTF tournaments worldwide.

ESA Old School Playing Rules
Based on the 1974 Subbuteo Handbook – Edited by Simon Goodman, Updated for 2024/2025
These rules are used in ESA Old School circuit tournaments. They are adapted from the 1974 Subbuteo rules and updated to suit modern event structure while preserving the spirit of traditional play.



TSPA Table Soccer Playing Rules
Last Updated: 16th March 2022
This rule set represents a simplified, inclusive version of Subbuteo-style play. It is used at selected events and offers an alternative option for those seeking a more casual or adaptable game format.
