English Subbuteo Old School National Circuit 2024/25: A Season to Remember

The curtain has come down on the 2024/25 English Subbuteo Old School National Circuit, and what a season it’s been. Across six fiercely contested rounds, with events hosted across the country by some of the most passionate clubs in the game, this year’s circuit delivered unforgettable drama, breakout victories, and a truly worthy champion.

Simon Goodman emerged as the overall winner, retaining the crown he won last year and confirming his place as the dominant force of the old school scene. With victories in both the CHASERS and Solent rounds and a consistent presence at every tournament, Goodman’s focus, skill, and dedication paid off handsomely. He's now a back-to-back champion in a circuit growing in stature by the month.

Joining him on the overall podium were Jason Christopher, a relentless competitor who claimed runner-up spots in both Chasers and Solent, and the ever-dangerous Rudi Peterschinigg, winner of the opening London round and Surrey event. With all three players finishing the season separated by just 20 points, the title race stayed alive until the final flick.

Four others played five events, and the breadth of competition has never been greater.

From the Organiser

Gianluca Zucchelli, one of the driving forces behind the circuit, shared this reflection: “Old rules Subbuteo was not represented with a national championship in England. Upon request of enthusiasts and players, 2023 the ESA accepted the challenge to build one. We started last season with our first round with 16 players only and now we have tournaments with 24 players and about 70 participants in six rounds played in a variety of locations in England. The quality of players improved massively with quite a few giant killings happening in the knockout stages. We are already at work to organise the third edition, the 25/26 season of a circuit that is now well established and very popular.”

Looking Ahead: The 2025/26 Circuit

With the Old School format now firmly cemented as a favourite among English Subbuteo players, all eyes turn to the 2025/26 edition, which promises to be bigger, better, and more competitive than ever. Building on the momentum of the past two years, the circuit is evolving into one of the most exciting parts of the national Subbuteo calendar.

Whether you're a seasoned veteran or a curious newcomer eager to try the classic format, the door is open. The competition is intense, the atmosphere is welcoming, and the flicking is first-class.

Get involved. Be part of the legacy. Old School is back, and it's here to stay.
